Starting at 3.30pm this Saturday on Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, will be the exciting Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m), and will form part of the prolific Rosehill Guineas Day.
As the sixth of nine races to take place, the 2010 Ajax Stakes will see 13 horses compete over the 1,500 metre distance, all hoping for a share in the $150,000.
Starting from the inside barrier for the middle distance event will be Kettledrum. As one of two starters for trainer David Payne, the gelding will be racing for the first time this year when he starts at the Ajax Stakes.
Payne’s other starter; Emperor Bonaparte will start from the 11th barrier, and will need to cut the field quickly to be in with a chance of winning the 2010 Ajax Stakes.
Taking the thirteenth barrier is Rock Kingdom. Trained by Gai Waterhouse, the gelding has not placed in the two races he started this year, although finished fifth in the Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) against an incredibly strong field.
Brilliant Light could be a horse to watch coming into the Ajax Stakes and starts from the third barrier.
Brilliant Light could be a horse to watch coming into the Ajax Stakes and starts from the third barrier. The four-year-old gelding has started twice this year, finishing in the top two both times, and could certainly provide some difficulty for the other starters.
